When the computer was introduced to modern offices a couple of decades ago, the mantra was to have less work and more time for leisure. Look what has happened to us to
the contemporary people. We are busier than ever before. But today, I am not going to talk to you about the busyness and how it affects us spiritually and emotionally and relationally etc., but how the modern narrative shapes us that we can be superman and do whatever we want. I am not a big comedy fan, but one major story in the comedy world took me by surprise. It was the story of Dave Chappelle, who walked away from a $50 million contract and went to Africa to reflect, and this is what he said to Oprah Winfrey show about why he walked away from a $50 million. There were many things, but this stands out to me so powerfully. 'success takes you where a character cannot sustain you." What Chappelle said proves that we are humans and not a machine.
We are not a product to sell and buy, but we are complex humans made in God's image. We don't just have a body, but mind and emotions, and most importantly, we have the spirit with the stamp of the Holy Spirit on it. We are God's creation's climax, and we are almost in the category of the handle with care line of God's creation. We are so enigmatic and powerful yet so frail. As humans, we harness the wind and water and generate electricity, but we fail to control our tongue and hurt and vilify people. I am trying to say that God designed us to be in a relational community, which can be in marriage, friendships, and partnership. But more and more, we are treating each other like a machine, which means, what can I get out of people and relationships. God sent the most powerful example for us by being triune God. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Right there, it is the family of God, and then he said after creating man, it is not suitable for men to be alone. So he created the right partner for him. Why? The world is a big project to work on and develop. Adam was gifted, but he needed Eve to help him out., Eve was gifted, but she needed Adam to help her out. When we look to God and understand how he designed us, it helps us move away from the industrial model of looking at the people. But we began to see the people as part of a grander vision of God to work on this gardening project, which leads us to power-sharing and accepting our limitations and accepting what others can offer. Suppose we fail to understand these dynamics and forfeit the community and community of friends and family. In that case, we will keep thinking we are a machine and individualistic way of achieving our ambition. It is not just reaching the top and making a score, but God wants us( all) to get his maturity and level of thinking and purpose and stay there. That's why many people get to the top, and after that, they are gone. For God, people are not the means but the end because He loves them so much and died for them. Let us invite each other by accepting our limitations and allowing others to participate in the gigantic gardening project He gave us called " world". That way, we don't have to reach the skies but bring the sky closer to everyone.
Thank You Pastor 🙏 I m so delighted and blessed to read this particular devotion. And these words really touched the Core of my Heart " It is not just reaching the top and making a score, but God wants us( all) to get his maturity and level of thinking and purpose and stay there." Thank you once again want to get more teaching and blessings from you and your ministries.
